Thanks onsuper8.org for this feed! :-)
Regular readers will have noticed virtual radio silence from onsuper8.org in recent months - sadly real life pressures and stresses have been getting in the way.
So, in order to re-charge the batteries we've decided to take a sabbatical - perhaps make a few films in the meantime - with a view to coming back big and better when the darker nights roll round again.
We know this might be a disappointment to some, but real life can be sometimes be a real pain!
Speak soon - keep it small gauge in the meantime!

Always good to see new small film websites being born, even better when they're based in the UK, tripley (is that a word) good when they're in Yorkshire!
Analog Movies is a website dedicated to providing interesting articles, links, videos, and any other material related to the pirsuit of making movies using photochemical processes (ie, film), as opposed to video. However, that doesn?t mean the site excludes video in any way, and we recognise its a useful tool in the chain of any wannabe director making movies with Super 8 or 16mm film etc.

Some welcome news from Ireland - a great new Super 8 festival... read on...
Super 8 Shots is the first festival of its kind in the West of Ireland to draw together film, art, comedy and music in such an intimate manner. We are resolutely small and independent. Our own particular idiosyncrasy is a celebration of the Super8 film format, its present, its history and its potential. Super 8 film was invented by Kodak in the 1960s and gave birth to millions of film makers. There has been a huge resurgence of Super-8 film in recent years and Super 8 still has many wonder years to come, with its unperishable cinematic look and its vivid colours.
Over the course of five days at the end of June, we will present, through the medium of Super8, screenings of a significant international selection of original 8mm works (Vivienne Dick, Moira Tierney and more), film masterclasses, exhibition, live 8mm film installations, comedy events and some phenomenal gigs involving Donal Dineen (Small Hours on 2Day FM) and others. Last but not least, we will host an international 8mm Film Competition with prizes worth over 1000 euros offered by Super8Ireland.com, the Galway based super8 film specialists who also are one of the main sponsors for the festival and by our other sponsors.
Embracing and drawing from the well of Galway?s unique spirit, energy and sense of community, we see this festival as an opportunity to add to another string to the bow of a great Western summer. The festival 's programme launch will be in Kelly's on 11th June, where Donal Dineen will be playing with Niwel Tsumbu and Mr Weasel.

Revel-8 kicks off this year with its most exciting theme yet ? Curiosity.
It?s human nature to enquire and question, so this year Revel-8 invites filmmakers to be inquisitive and explore quirky, weird and down right curious characters, stories and styles, on a single cartridge of Super 8 film.
To be eligible for the screening, Australian filmmakers send one cartridge of unedited, unprocessed Super 8 to Revel-8, who will get it processed and hand the best 20 films to the fantastic WA Academy of Performing Arts composers. The film can be a drama, documentary, experimental or animation and must explore the theme, Curiosity.
Everything will come together at the Astor cinema on the 9th of July 2010 as part of the Revelation Film Festival. As always, there?ll be awards presented on the night including Best Film, Best Music Soundtrack, Audience Choice Award and more!
This year also marks the end of an era, with processing of the fabulous Kodachrome 40 ending this year, so if you are sitting on stock, now could be your last chance to make the most of it.
As a special incentive, prepaying your registration fee will earn you a free Super 8 cartridge at no additional cost (while stocks last). Email super8guru@gmail.com to reserve your stock!
Entry forms and a help guide is available here
Entries close 28th of May, so get revved up!

KODAK Introduces New Super 8 Motion Picture Film; Advancements in Film Technology Foster a Renaissance for the Small Gauge
ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, April 6, 2010 - KODAK has introduced a new Color Reversal Film available in the Super 8 mm format today. KODAK Ektachrome 100D Color Reversal Film is a daylight-balanced 100-speed film, incorporating bright saturated colors and fine grain with excellent sharpness.
"Super 8 mm film is a versatile, affordable option for filmmakers who require the image quality and flexibility of film," says Chris Johnson, product manager, Entertainment Imaging Division, Eastman Kodak Company. "Quantum leaps in film emulsion technology have made Super 8 - once considered a hobbyist's format - a viable option for professional filmmakers and students."
Many of today's great cinematographers and directors began their careers at the counter of their local photo shop, buying a cartridge of Super 8 film, according to Johnson. But KODAK Ektachrome 100D Color Reversal Film offers filmmakers image quality far beyond that of the familiar home movie format of the 1960s, he says.
"Kodak's commitment to R&D continues to raise the bar for image quality," says Johnson. "One benefit is that Super 8 is now a terrific option for students who want to hone their skills, as well as for professional filmmakers who want to craft a distinctive look for their project."
According to Johnson, the Super 8 film format is supported by a network of dedicated laboratories that process and digitize the output. One of the leading labs in the United States supporting the Super 8 format is Pro8MM, located in Burbank, California.
"Our customers have been clamoring for Kodak to offer the 100D product in the Super 8 format," states Phil Vigeant, president of Pro8MM and author of the book, The Power of Super 8. "The results our customers can produce with a Super 8 camera and a 50-foot cartridge of Super 8 film scanned to HD are amazing."
One of the leading facilities in Europe supporting the Super 8 format is Wittner-Cinetec. "The increased saturation of the 100D film makes colors just pop," says company President Daniel Wittner. "We are glad to see Kodak continuing to support this important format."
"We are excited and happy to demonstrate Kodak's continued commitment to film technology, and we look forward to further announcements this year," says Johnson.

An important dispatch from the Big K...
Today, Kodak is announcing future plans for its Super 8 product portfolio. In this ever changing business, Eastman Kodak remains committed to providing Super 8 camera users with a range of products and creative choices. As such, it is adding a new product to its S8 motion picture film offerings. The new KODAK Ektachrome 100D Color Reversal Film (7285) is a daylight-balanced 100-speed film, incorporating bright saturated colors and fine grain with excellent sharpness.
As part of these future plans, Kodak is announcing the discontinuance of Ektachrome 64T Super 8 Color Reversal Film (7280). This product will phase out over the next couple of months. This follows the previously announced discontinuance of that 64T Color Reversal Film within the professional still portfolio.
In addition, is announcing the discontinuance of Kodak PLUS-X Reversal Film (7265) in the Super 8 format. This product will phase out over the next couple of months. We will maintain Kodak TRI-X Reversal Film (7266). TRI-X Film is a high speed (EI 200) panchromatic film for use in indoor and outdoor applications. It offers excellent tonal gradation and high sharpness.
Kodak will continue to offer two color negative films within the Super 8 portfolio: Kodak VISION3 500T Color Negative Film (7219) and Kodak VISION2 200T Color Negative Film (7217). These films provide exposure flexibility and great image quality for those users who plan on digitizing their images.
Despite the changes to the portfolio, we remain committed to the Super 8 format and to the unique look Kodak film provides. We continue to make investments in this business in order to bring the most creative, flexible imaging tools to our motion picture customers. We are also working hard to focus our resources in the right areas so that we may continue to deliver the best film products and the best value possible to our customers.
